Winter_photos .. Jalbum 8.6 snomolimit slides/snomolimit.htm# Mon, 22 Feb 2010 20:51:07 -0500 (Photo and caption by Jon Niehof) Back in March (the 13th, 2007) I was doing a loop up Cannon, over the Northeast Cannonball, and down past Lonesome Lake to Lafayette Campground. I needed to get up to the Kinsman Ridge trailhead (by the Cannon tramway), about 2 miles by the Pemi trail and 2.5 by the bike path. Biking the parkway would have been the best option, obviously, but I settled for walking. The Pemi trail wasn't broken out at all, whereas the bike path was hardpacked by snowmobiles. Given the choice between walking 2.5 miles barebooted on a packed surface or breaking trail in snowshoes for 2 miles, I took the bike path and kept an ear open for the snowmobiles. This photo was taken at 8:11 AM, just north of Lafayette Place campground--right after leaving the parking lot, looking north. Note the priorities: snowmobilers are permitted a higher speed limit than cyclists! (I imagine they don't have to get off and walk in the "bike walk areas", either.) This photo was taken at 8:12, at the bridge a little bit further north, looking north. The warning sign visible through the trees in the left background of the previous photo is in the foreground here. The photo was taken at 8:24, probably more or less under Cannon Cliffs, so a little southwest of the Cannon Cliff Trailhead.
